Hiya, today I have a lovely Shabby Chic style card made featuring the beautiful Sue Wilson dies. This was a card made for once for our own use, to send to a lovely friend who has just moved home.

I am often asked what inspires me when making my cards and I always say anything and everything and this card is a perfect eg of this. I saw a simple pile of laundry and just loved the way the colours looked together and that started me on this track for this card. I knew I wanted to use some of Sue’s dies although I wasn’t sure which ones at the time. I had it my head I wanted to have some sort of central decoration section that was recessed then popped up level again with the rest of the card. This centre piece was to have my sentiment on. At that point I had not got it in my head to have the bird house or even the flowers.

As I pieced the elements together for the card in my mind and was looking through my dies for the perfect set for this kind of recess I had in mind, I came across the Birdie dies and really wanted to incorporate those too. I decided to add the branch and bird house in the top corner but felt in my minds eye that this would then make the rest look rather bare. It was only then that I decided to add the flowers. At this point I only had it in my head to have the flowers at the bottom. I literally didn’t decide to add flowers to the branch til I saw my yellow branch with the patterned paper leaves, and did not like how it looked. I then re-cut the branch in white still with the plan to add the pattern paper leaves again and then thought in a flash of inspiration how cool it would look, and more balanced, to add some paper flowers up there too.

So although I had a design in mind and roughly sketched, it does not mean you cannot change it. Sometimes when you see it in reality it just not quite look how you thought.

Anyway enough chatter, but I just thought this was a perfect card to explain my inspiration process as it were, here is my Sue Wilson Home Tweet Home Shabby Chic Card video:-

I think it turned out so pretty and the lady to whom we sent the card said she loved it and it is sitting in pride of place on her new bookshelf. So happy that she loved it and her new home.

So as always here are the photos of the finished project for you, and as always don’t forget to click on the image to get the full size photo, option for super sized and auto playthrough:-
